Fresh Water for Maasai Village

Proceeds from fineart print sales are donated to established accredited conservation organisations.

Our current project - restoration of deep water well for Maasai Village near Amboseli.

The concept is to ensure the funds are utilized directly, providing something tangible, in support of Wildlife Conservation including:

  • animal and plant conservation
  • environmental conservation
  • habitat conservation
  • cultural conservation, promoting awareness and the need for sustainability, protection and remedial action

When elephants damaged the only fresh water well near one particular Maasai Village last year, the effect when coupled with increasingly drier seasons, was profound.  Now, the stresses on the local environment and on the villagers themselves, risk forcing unwanted change to the Maasai villagers' chosen way of life.

These people live in harmony with the environment, working with it in a sustainable way rather than irreparably damaging it.  They understand the fauna and flora and how they fit in - something we can learn from, as with so many indigenous peoples.

A member of the village and the interpreter Dickson explains the plight of these people who take pride in living traditionally but who are increasingly at risk from climate change.

I will revisit this village at the end of the year.
