Also called the Anubis baboon.
Lake Manyara National Park,
Tanzania
IUCN: Listed on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as 'Least Concern'
Image story: Whist other species are threatened, these adaptable and tenacious animals are thriving.
It is mid-day at Manyara, the sun is high in a cloudless sky and its harsh shafts of light pierce the shaded and cooler areas under the loose canopy of interwoven treetops.
These covered areas surrounding the lake are thick and jungle-like with leafy green plants climbing up the large tall trees.
It is an ideal place for a troop of baboon.
This particular male moved around in the branches close to our vehicle, curious as ever and watchful.
He was often just hanging upside-down, providing ample opportunity for me to capture some images of him.
The tricky part was trying to capture his face in enough light or at least part of his face, including at least one of his eyes.
Exposing for his face, meant that the surrounds were suitably dark with irregular angled and patterned light lending itself to an interesting composition.
